In 2016 the BISMUN Conference will take place from 23 to 28 of March 2016 at the Palace of Parliament and it will bring together over 200 participants from Europe, as well as from numerous countries all over the world.
At a time when the whole world is torn by the threat posed by terrorism, we want to prove that there is such a thing as “Global Consensus”, that there is strength in numbers and that, despite our differences, we can stand united.
The general theme of this year’s Bucharest Student Model United Nations emphasizes the fact that terrorism is a serious problem, even if we are not facing it directly. Therefore, BISMUN 2016 will simulate a body that was not present in the previous edition: the Counter-Terrorism Committee, because this year, we focus on finding answers. How do we fight something so dangerous? The answer can only be one: we fight it together, because we know that united we stand, but divided we fall.
Howard Zinn once said: “How can you have a war on terrorism when war itself is terrorism?” Let’s take a moment to ponder on this question and maybe we shall understand that the answer to violence can never be more violence. From world leaders, to politicians, to the civil society and to you, each and every one of us must join hands in order succeed in this battle. We must put an end to the use of weapons of mass destructions, to wasting more precious lives, to all this hate. We need global consensus this time and we shall reach it together!
